Description
Bucephalandra sp “Red Blade” is a medium-sized species in the genus.
Red Blade has particularly attractive foliage compared to many of the more generic-looking Buce.
The leaves are oblong, with undulate margins, and a prominent, raised vein down the center. Additional veins radiate from the center, creating an interesting pattern and texture. The petioles, stems, and rhizomes are sometimes red.
The foliage varies in color from a rich green to a yellowish green (usually on the newest leaves). As with most Bucephalandra, dim light results in leaves with a bluish, iridescent appearance, which is part of the genus’ adaptation to successfully growing in low light levels in their natural environment.
