An extremely tiny filmy fern in the family Hymenophyllaceae.

The fronds typically have a rounded, somewhat fan-like shape, and average approximately 1/4″ to 1/2″ in diameter.

As with all filmy ferns, extremely high humidity and moisture are required to prevent dessication.

I usually grow this species on sterilized sphagnum. It also grows well on wet wood, wet rocks, and Hygrolon.

Due to the miniscule size of this species, care must be taken to prevent moss and other plants from smothering it. That’s one of the reasons I like to sterilize sphagnum before using it; this prevents the sphagnum and other species from coming back to life via spores.
